I was going to write a piece on the occasion of Dolly Parton’s death, but JSR sent me these words of his own and asked whether we might simply run it instead.
Dolly! I am not usamerican, but I have always hoped that Dolly and the great traditions and innovations in your music somehow represented the true usa, while the slimy, scuzzy politics of our times do not. Wishful thinking, I guess. Thanks for the Muleskinner Blues - just great.
What a depressing thread. I too remember watching Dolly on the Porter Wagner show. Childishly I want her to always be here (so I can pretend I'm young) and now she's in heaven with Carl.
